Italian Honeymoon Inspiration: Venice + the Surrounding Islands

As temps have slowly started to rise here in Texas, I've been getting the itch to travel and even though I'm headed off this weekend for "The Great Southern Road Trip" ;) with my fam, I couldn't resist sharing these gorgeous photos of Venice and the surrounding islands that Teresa, of In Love in Italy, sent over, along with some lovely notes. So dreamy and the perfect inspiration for a classic Italian honeymoon:

MALAMOCCO

Says Teresa, "Malamocco is a tiny little village on the Isle of Lido di Venezia. It is an unusual destination when traveling to Venice but it's well worth a visit: it has very ancient origins and before the foundation of Venice, it was chosen as capital of the Venetian State. Venezia Lido would make for a perfect place to stay when visiting Venice as it is a wonderful and calm retreat, far from the crowds and the noise, just half an hour away from the city. We stayed at Ca' Del Moro, a pretty little hotel with an ancient hall and pinacoteque and a lovely secret garden.

MURANO:

Even getting to Murano is quite an experience itself: you take the ferry boat at Fondamente Nuove and enjoy your ride leaving Venice behind your back and passing by San Michele, a Catholic cemetery island with brick walls and tall cypresses. Once you get to the village, you'll be surprised of how colorful and different from Venezia it is. There's a glasswork store in nearly every little house along the canals, and you can't quite imagine the hard work and craftsmanship that's behind those glass vases, or jewels, or lamps, before you attend a glass blowing demonstration in one of the many factories. We were lucky enough to have Mr. Pastorello, a glass blowing master at Ferro Lazzarini factory, illustrate us the process of creating a Murrina vase and a decorated wine glass ... we were in awe the whole time!

VENICE:

Getting back to Venice, sailing along Sestriere Castello and its shipbuilding factories, we discovered an unexpected character of the city: its industrial soul. Then, in the evening, we slowly re-immersed in the historic centre, wandering among the Calle and bridges, strolling through all the main attractions (Ponte di Rialto, piazza San Marco..) and dining to tasty "cicchetti" and "spritz" at Cantine del Vino, in Sestriere Dorsoduro."
