Playful New Orleans Courtyard Wedding in Pastels

Years ago, when J&I lived on the Mississippi Coast, we'd try to weekend in New Orleans as often as we could. The soul and energy found there will always make it one of my favorite cities. So it's no surprise I'm loving the easy elegance of this wedding by Southern Charm Weddings Louisiana in the Big Easy. / Photos by Elizabeth Ray.

After trying on what seemed like a thousand and one dresses, at a thousand and one dress stores (I'm being a little overdramatic), I finally found THE ONE. One afternoon, my mom and I went to Yvonne Lafleur to try on some more bridal gowns. And, just like they say, "when you know, you know," that's exactly how it happened. When I tried on the dress and walked out of the dressing room and stood up on that pedestal, my mom CRIED. And, I JUST KNEW.

We chose to get married and have our reception at Race and Religious in NOLA. We found the place incredibly intriguing through online pictures, and we immediately fell in love once we visited. It was the first and only place we looked at, but one look was all it took!

A few weeks before the wedding, Jonathan's sister asked me if I would want to wear one of their mother's rings on my wedding day. See, Jonathan's mother had passed away in the early part of our relationship, and I never had the opportunity to meet her. So when Sarah asked if I would like to wear one of her rings, I was beyond honored and felt extremely special. I loved, loved, loved being able to have a part of her with me on one of my best days.

Brittany + Jonathan's Love Story
Jonathan and I met each other at Lucy's Retired Surfers bar in NOLA. It was the night before Halloween 2010, I was on my way to a costume party, and Jonathan was out celebrating after his sister's wedding. We ended up being introduced by a mutual friend, and the rest is history=) But if you were to ask Jonathan, he would say something along the lines of how I was dressed in a naughty elf costume, and he was all tuxed out, so neither of us stood a chance.

The style I wanted to to portray throughout our wedding celebration: Romantic. We played a lot with lighting, especially candlelight, for the ceremony and reception. We had beautiful string lights draped across the courtyard where we were married, gorgeous candle arrangements on every table, and even had the fireplaces burning during the reception. IT LOOKED AMAZING!

My favorite memory from our wedding day is when I walked down the aisle. I tried to take the walk slowwww, while taking everything in. And magical is the only way to describe it. It felt so so good to have all of our family and friends there to celebrate with us, and with all eyes on me, I sort of choked up a bit. I just felt an overwhelming sense of love and support as I made my way up to Jonathan. I couldn't wait to say " I DO." A close second to that, is when Jonathan danced alone with our daughter, Blakely, after my dad and I danced together . When he twirled our little one year old baby around the dance floor, I fell in love with him all over again.

Brittany's advice: "To all the brides-to- be out there: Try not to stress! (easier said than done), but your wedding day will go by so quickly. RELAX and BREATHE."
